Reading Books and Why It's Great For Farmers
Habits only begin when you let them
Starting a new hobby or habit isn’t the easiest especially finding one that you’ll like is the key due to being consistent with it. I started reading by reading the Land newspaper from cover to cover. Not because I liked the content but because I wanted to know what others were doing and what was weird out there. I was in my gap year and this was before I discovered podcasts.
I first properly started to read when It was lockdown in London. I always use to see people reading in public and I felt somewhat ashamed by this. “He’s a nerd” or what have you but now I’d relish anyone calling me a nerd. It’s a puff your chest moment when you can fix a computer or even know how SEO works. (too long to explain but look it up here if you want.) Anyway, I started reading out on the back porch of our tiny but well needed garden during lockdown in summer.
I bought books off Amazon and they were delivered about 4 hrs later to my door. If that didn’t make you read quicker I don’t know what else will. Now bulk ordering still off amazon, cant find many in the locals.
Reading for me is a zen moment. Something to learn but something to take my mind away from the day before starting or ending it. It’s a worthwhile habit and if you don’t like it, it is because you’ve picked up the wrong book.
Currently reading Dan Sullivans Gap and the Gain. It wasn’t what I thought it’d be about but pass the first few chapters and you click to know how it can help. Looking at your gains rather than the gaps you have. Depending how you look at the situation. For farmers who have it all but still don’t feel successful and those that don’t but are appreciative of how far they come probably having varying mindsets.
Anyway, let me know what books you’re reading to [email protected]
